Hi folks! I’m Jessica A. Kent.

I’ve been writing and creating stories all my life, and have been writing content for websites and businesses for 20 years.

I’m also a published author, former bookseller, ran social media for the Boston Book Festival (and ran the whole thing one year), ran a lit mag for a short time, had a job in a library once, and founded Literary Boston.

I’ve decided to combine my experience in marketing to service the industry I love.

Here’s more about my experience:

Content Strategy:

  • Literary Boston: Since 2012, I’ve been growing Literary Boston through an organic content marketing strategy: posting great content on the website, and distributing it through social media and a weekly newsletter.

  • Boston Book Festival: Served as social media manager, marketing manager, and marketing advisor for the Festival, growing engagement across social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok; writing a newsletter sent to 10,000 subscribers; wrote relevant blog posts for the website.

  • Harvard Business School: Oversaw content strategy for the 100+ page Prematriculation website, including content writing and management by working with various departments across the University; creating and managing Beginnings: The Prematric Blog; sending out weekly newsletter to 1000 incoming students encouraging engagement and action on Prematriculation activities.

Course Creation, Writing, and Contribution:

  • Facebook/Meta: "Social Media Marketing" professional certificate

  • Facebook/Meta: “Marketing Analytics” professional certificate

  • Google: "Project Management" professional certificate

Writing:

  • ebooks on business and marketing topics

  • website copy for nonprofits, small and medium-sized businesses, and even for Harvard Business School

  • email newsletter content for Literary Boston (my own project), Harvard Business School, and the Boston Book Festival

  • social media copy for Literary Boston (my own project) and the Boston Book Festival

  • podcast shownotes and other website and social media copy for promotion

  • academic writing, as my master’s degree is in literature from Harvard, where my 70-page thesis on Moby-Dick won the Director’s Prize for Outstanding Thesis

Education:

  • BFA in Creative Writing/Writing, Literature, and Publishing from Emerson College

  • MA in Literature from Harvard University (Extension), where my master’s thesis won the Director’s Prize

I went part-time freelance in 2019 right before the pandemic, and ramped up my freelance projects enough to see myself through the pandemic. I’ve been full-time freelance since 2021.

This means that I know a lot about how to turn writing into content that brings value to clients and customers. And I can help you do that, too.
